Description
With the ND20, Nextorch is launching a tool for authorities with security tasks onto the market. The ND20 is an electronic flash bang with a blinding output of 8,000 lumens and a generated sound pressure of 100dB. Nextorch states that the development of the system took four years and emergency services were closely involved in the development work. Basically, stun grenade are nothing new, as they are used as so-called flashbangs – also known colloquially as flash grenades – in many operations by special forces of the police and the army. However, classic stun grenades have a major disadvantage: they are not reusable.
The irritation performance of the ND20 is exclusively achieved electronically. The ND20 flashes with 8,000 lumens and irritates with a shrill alarm tone. The built-in loudspeaker generates a sound pressure of 100 dB – so the ND20 can even land right next to an ear without causing long-term damage.
Flash and shock grenades / flashbangs produce one or more loud bangs (approx. 170-180 dB) and very bright light (6-8 million candela) by means of an explosion. People in the vicinity of the explosion area become temporarily disoriented, as their vision and hearing are severely impaired. This allows the emergency services to make a safe entry, usually without resistance.
The trigger time can be set in three stages: 1, 1.5 or 3 seconds. The runtime can also be set: 3, 6 or 12 seconds. The trigger switch is a so-called push-release button; the set trigger delay time only starts to run when the switch is released. Using the ND20 is safe for the user, the body does not emit any heat and there is no explosion, only light and noise are released.
Thanks to its cylindrical shape and the high-power LEDs mounted all around it, this operational equipment dazzles almost 360°. The technology inside can withstand any throw. The size and weight have been continuously optimised to make it the perfect projectile, according to Nextorch. The housing of the ND20 (weight 386 grams) is made of a special aluminium that is used in the construction of helicopters or in spaceflight. The LEDs are protected by armour made of thick polycarbonate.
